Courses Available

  • RYA Level Courses  - courses aimed at learning to sail, with no experience necessary and developing on the foundation of this learning, covering RYA Levels 1 -4 and RYA Start Racing.
  • BSC WOW (Women On Water) Courses - Women on Water is a great, relaxed way for women to either take their first steps to becoming a sailor or to improve on sailing skills already acquired.
  • BSC Courses - a series of courses designed and laid on by the Club to both improve skills and enjoyment of any sailors time on the water.
  • RYA Senior Instructor Courses - a course to train and test a sailor to become a Senior Instructor.

RYA Levels Courses


RYA Levels 1-2

Level 1. This assumes no previous sailing knowledge. You will learn the basics of launching and recovery and by the end of the course you will have made a great start and will be able to sail in light winds under supervision.

Level 2. This assumes that you have the sailing skills required at level 1 and here you will learn amongst other things, how to sail in all directions and how to recover from a capsize.

Two or four day course starting at £100.00

RYA Start Racing

This course is designed to give the confidence, skills and knowledge to take part in club racing in good conditions. It is assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills of sailing around a triangle without active instruction and absorbed the background knowledge required for RYA Level 2 or RYA Level 3. The course can be taken in either the Club’s Fevas or in participants’ own boats; where the option for club Fevas cannot be selected, the course MUST be done in participants own boat.

BSC WOW Courses (Women on Water)


Women On Water - Start Sailing Bahias

Women on Water is a great, relaxed way for women to either take their first steps to becoming a sailor or to improve on sailing skills already acquired. There is informal tuition and safety boat cover available and everybody is encouraged to learn at their own pace.

Four or six day course starting at £100.

Women On Water - Go Racing Fevas

Women on Water – Go Racing is a great, relaxed way for women to take their first steps to start racing or to improve on sail racing skills already acquired. Participants must be capable of sailing a boat around a triangular course without instruction. There is informal tuition about how to race at the level of starting to enter races at a sailing club. Safety boat cover is available and everybody is encouraged to learn at their own pace. Participants can sail the Club’s Fevas or use their own boat.

BSC Courses


Scow/Tideway Race Training

This is a course dedicated to class racing in Scows or Tideways. It is aimed at those existing Scow or Tideway sailors who can tack, gybe, sail on all points of sailing and apply the 5 essentials; this means they are at least to an equivalent experience level to RYA Level 2. The course is most appropriate for those who have a limited experience of racing and are perhaps feeling somewhat cautious of being in close proximity with other boats. After attending the course, Scow or Tideway sailors might considering entering regular BSC class racing and potentially the Bosham Masters event. Attendees need to bring their own Scow or Tideway. There is the possibility to gain the RYA’s Start Racing award.

RYA Instructor Courses


 

RYA Dinghy Instructor Course

The instructor is a competent, experienced sailor capable of sailing a training boat in strong winds and handling small powerboats. The instructor has been assessed as competent to teach adults and children, beginners and improvers. Although responsible for teaching individuals and small groups, the instructor has not been assessed as competent in running a sailing centre, and should always work under the supervision of an RYA Senior instructor. Eligibility requirements, prior to the course candidates must fulfil the following:

1.Minimum age 16
2. Valid first aid certificate of a type approved by the RYA
3. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
4. RYA Safe & Fun safeguarding certificate & pre-course work completed (accessed within the Safe & Fun course)
5. Pre-entry sailing assessment completed within 1 year prior to the instructor training course.
