    Training is informal in these sessions and the main purpose of Oppie Friday evenings is to give Optimist sailors invaluable time out on the water to build confidence in relaxed conditions. In essence it’s all about fun and enjoyment for all abilities for members and friends!

    The dates are 11th May, 25th May, 10th June, 22nd June, 6th July and 20th July.

    Bosham Sailing Club are running a set of 6 taster sessions as an introduction to sailing. The Club will provide the optimist sailing dinghies for use, instructors to provide training, and support boats for safety on the water.

    The main purpose of these sessions is to give the children an invaluable time out on the water. It will be an opportunity to build their confidence in an encouraging atmosphere. In essence it’s all about fun and enjoyment for all abilities just for the students of Bosham Primary School.

    Time of sessions: 1600 – 1800

    Dates of sessions; 24th April, 8th May, 22nd May, 5th June, 19th June & 3rd July.

  • BSC Safety Boat Awareness

    Bosham Sailing Club has taken the syllabus for the RYA’s 2 day Safety Boat Course and refocussed the content to cover only rescuing sailing dinghies. In this one day practical course, techniques for rescuing dinghies are covered including: lee shore recovery, capsized boats and inverted hulls. While it is not a requirement to enter the water, it is always better to come prepared! The desired outcome is that participants feel better prepared to undertake their club safety boat duties.

  • RYA Stages 1 – 3 (Optimist)

    RYA Stages 1 – 3 are a fantastic way of learning or improving your sailing skills.

    Stage 1. This assumes no previous sailing knowledge but on completion of this stage, you will be able to steer a boat and understand the basic principles of sailing.

    Stage 2. You will have passed stage 1 and be looking forward to being able to tack and control boat speed and the learning the very important principles of collision avoidance!

    Stage 3. You will have passed stages 1 & 2 and will be growing in confidence as you will be consolidating on launching and recovery skills and learning new capsize drills and on completion of this stage, you will be able to sail a triangular course as a sailor, not as a beginner.

    Take your first steps to becoming a confident and successful racer with this specially designed course. Participants must be able to sail to RYA Stage 3 level or better.

  • RYA Stage 4 (Feva)

    Course is designed for young people who can sail around a triangular course competently or who have RYA Stage 3. It is aimed at those moving into the Feva class for the first time from another class or those wishing to progress with their Feva sailing.

    For the more experienced sailor who has already completed RYA Start Racing and RYA Intermediate Racing, this course will develop techniques and skills to enable the sailor to confidently take part in higher level competition.

  • RYA Levels 1-2

    RYA Levels 1-2

    Level 1. This assumes no previous sailing knowledge. You will learn the basics of launching and recovery and by the end of the course you will have made a great start and will be able to sail in light winds under supervision.

    Level 2. This assumes that you have the sailing skills required at level 1 and here you will learn amongst other things, how to sail in all directions and how to recover from a capsize.
