    09:30 -16:30
    14/09/18-19/10/18

Women on Water – Go Racing is a great, relaxed way for women to take their first steps to start racing or to improve on sail racing skills already acquired. Participants must be capable of launching and returning to shore, plus sailing a boat around a triangular course without instruction. If you are using your own boat, you must be able to rig and de-rig it. There is tuition about how to race at the level of starting to enter races at a sailing club and building on racing skills. Safety boat cover is available and everybody is encouraged to learn at their own pace within the same sailing area. Participants can sail the Club’s Fevas or use their own boat.

Four or six day course starting at £100.

You will learn to sail in a club Bahia with an instructor in the boat coaching you at your own pace. There is safety boat cover on the water. This is a great way to start sailing, or to get back into sailing if you haven’t been on the water for a few months.

Four or six day course starting at £100.

  • RYA Day Skipper Evening Class

    RYA Day Skipper Evening Class

    All day
    24/09/18

The Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper theory course provides a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers. This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising. In conjunction with the UK Hydrographic Office, the RYA has developed a chart plotter specifically for use on training courses, giving you a realistic insight into electronic navigation. Use of this plotter is an integral part of our Day Skipper shorebased course.

Course topics include: the basics of seamanship, the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat and emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts.

The course will be taught over 40 hours with two exam papers. It will on Monday evenings from 1830 to 2145 starting on September 24th and last for 12 weeks finishing on December 10th . The cost will be £340, which includes all the materials required from the RYA (excluding pencils, chart plotter and dividers).

    29/09/18

For those experienced powerboaters or cruiser owners, who require proof of their skills to helm a Club powerboat or for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC), it is possible to sit the equivalent of a “driving test.” The standard to be achieved is the same as that by a beginner with 2 days of active tuition, but the assessment takes place in less than half a day. Please note that it is assessment only and there is no active tuition taking place.

This assessment is a couple of hours, starting at £45.00.

  • RYA Levels 1-2

    RYA Levels 1-2

    09:30 -16:30
    29/09/18-30/09/18

Level 1. This assumes no previous sailing knowledge. You will learn the basics of launching and recovery and by the end of the course you will have made a great start and will be able to sail in light winds under supervision.

Level 2. This assumes that you have the sailing skills required at level 1 and here you will learn amongst other things, how to sail in all directions and how to recover from a capsize.

A two day course starting at £100.00

    09:00 -16:30
    30/09/18

Bosham Sailing Club has taken the syllabus for the RYA’s 2 day Safety Boat Course and refocussed the content to cover only rescuing sailing dinghies. In this one day practical course, techniques for rescuing dinghies are covered including: lee shore recovery, capsized boats and inverted hulls. While it is not a requirement to enter the water, it is always better to come prepared! The desired outcome is that participants feel better prepared to undertake their club safety boat duties.

A one day Course, starting at £50.00
