    RYA First Aid

    The RYA First Aid Course is designed to teach you what to do in many of the situations where people have accidents whilst on a small craft, from how to resuscitate someone to how to treat minor cuts.
    This course is useful for anyone who goes out on the water and at the end of the course you will qualify for the RYA First Aid Certificate which is valid for 3 years from time of issue.
    The key aims of the RYA First Aid Course are to ensure that the student is able to:

    • Perform CPR and know how this differs on a drowned person
    • Understand the effect of cold shock and how to treat hypothermia from immersion and exposure
    • Recognise the signs and implications of reduced responsiveness in a person with a head injury
    • Apply direct pressure to a wound and control bleeding.
    • Recognise and treat seasickness and dehydration
    • Obtain medical advice and assistance using the VHF radio
    • Know how to prepare for helicopter evacuation
    • Demonstrate how to turn a casualty into the recovery position
    • Understanding the importance of maintaining the airway

    On the 7th and 8th March – 0900 to 1300hrs.

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2

    This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). There is no assumed knowledge for this course but it may be proceeded by Level 1 Start Power Boating.

  • RYA Safety Boat

    It is a requirement for this course that you have already passed RYA Power Boat Level 2. You will learn safety aspects such as preparation of the safety boat, capsized dinghy rescue, inverted dinghy rescue, towing, and rescue of other craft, so that by the end of the course, you will be able to provide useful safety or support cover to a range of craft.

  • RYA Stages and training – see website

    Courses to be supplied depending on demand.

    Stage 1. This assumes no previous sailing knowledge but on completion of this stage, you will be able to steer a boat and understand the basic principles of sailing.

    Stage 2. You will have passed stage 1 and be looking forward to being able to tack and control boat speed and the learning the very important principles of collision avoidance!

    Stage 3. You will have passed stages 1 & 2 and will be growing in confidence as you will be consolidating on launching and recovery skills and learning new capsize drills and on completion of this stage, you will be able to sail a triangular course as a sailor, not as a beginner.

    Stage 4. Sail a double handed boat as crew or helm and solve a variety of problems afloat.

    Start Racing. Take your first steps to becoming a confident and successful racer.

    Intermediate Racing. Improve you racing technique and knowledge for racing at club level.

    Advanced Racing. Developing skills in preparation for open meetings and higher competition.
